dissolving icosphere
I recently watched a tutorial by tutor4u on how to make a dissolving blender material using a noise texture
I recreated the technique dissolving a ico-sphere instead of a suzanne you can download the blend file here
smoke density selection
for this animation I used a smoke sim and a volume material. The material only selects part of the density values using a color-ramp node. The smoke has no temperature difference but is moved by a turbulence force-field

For this animation I used two nested icospeheres - the outer one has a glass material the inner one uses a displacement texture

I used a displacement modifier on a torus meth and animated various parameters

For this animation I used a brick texture in cycles with a very large brick size and used it's factor output to mix between a transparent and an emission shader

For this animation I used two linked Icospheres. One got a skin modifier the other one was subdivided and got a wireframe material
