how to make a small scratchingpost
I build a small scratchingpost from scratch (sorry could not resist :-) ) to prevent my cats from scratching on my chair. I used scrap materials I had lying around and it only took me a view minutes.
These are the materials I used:
- a piece of wood for the base (I used the remains of an old cat-tree)
- a cardboard can (from müsli, potatochips, ...)
- a screw, a washer and a nut
- a sisal-clothsline
- some doublesided stickytape
- small rubberfeed
First I drilled a hole into the base plate and the bottom of the cardboard can. Then I used the screw and the nut to fix the can to the plate and made sure that the beginning of the clothsline is stuck between them.
Then I wound the clothsline around the can all the way to the top. To secure the clothsline on the end I used some doublesided stickytape. I used a small knive to cut a x into the can near the top and pushed the end of the rope through so my cats can't use the ending to unwind the rope.
Finally I put some rubber feed on the base plate to prevent the screw from scratching my floor - et voila! - a small scratching-post I can place next to my desk to save my chair
