blender particle experiments - dissolving tree

Nikolaus Gradwohl2012-09-24T05:23:57+00:00

for this part of my blender experiments I made a dissolving tree using a particle system, a turbulence force-field and an explode modifier the tree was generated using the sapling-add-on

you can download the blend file here (it's 61mb this time - so it might take a while to download)

new blender particle experiment gallery

Nikolaus Gradwohl2012-09-23T11:11:19+00:00

I have done a bunch of blender particle experiments in the last year and have set up a gallery page for them.

It's linked in the Gallery section of my blog

blender particle experiments - keyed particles

Nikolaus Gradwohl2012-09-18T05:40:50+00:00

For this part of my blender particle experiments I used a keyed particle system using a object-group to render the particles

blender particle experiments - wobble

Nikolaus Gradwohl2012-09-15T09:34:54+00:00

in this part of my blender particle experiment I made an object that wobbles on particle impact. I used dynamic paint in wave mode to generate the wobbles.

At first I planned to use a soft-body simulation, but using the dynamic paint waves turned out to be a lot easier and more stable

wallpaper for my mobilephone

Nikolaus Gradwohl2012-09-14T06:13:21+00:00

I recently got a new phone and needed a wallpaper for it. So I fired up blender and made one. Its based on the wallpaper I made for my computers a while ago, but this time I also added a tree using the sapling addon

you can dowload the blend file here

or you can download a hires version of the wallpaper here

blender particle experiments - dynamic paint pseudo-reactor particles

Nikolaus Gradwohl2012-09-13T04:20:42+00:00

For this part of my blender particle experiments I used dynamic paint to generate an effect similar to the reactor particles from blender 2.49

I used 2 particle systems, the first one is setup as a brush for dynamic-paint, and influences a vertex-group on a plane.

The second one is a hair-particle system that uses the vertex-group for length and density of the created particles.

so I can create a bunch of smaller particles where the big ones hit the plane.

Blender particle experiments - glowing particles

For this part of my blender particle experiments I made light-streaks out of particles

Blender particle experiments - particle-info node

Nikolaus Gradwohl2012-09-11T04:30:36+00:00

For this part of my blender particle experiments I used the new ParticleInfo-Node in the Cycles material editor to generate a material that changes over the lifetime of a particle

in the current testbuild the particle-node still has some issues like crashing when the emitter is hidden or setting the particle lifetime to zero on the frame before the particle gets removed, but I really like it

this won't be the last animation I made using it - for sure :-)

Blender particle experiments - black fluid

Nikolaus Gradwohl2012-09-07T05:06:03+00:00

For this blender particle experiments I made another set of fluid particles that cover a sphere. This time I also animated the particles using ShapeKeys

blender particle experiments - spherical bounce

Nikolaus Gradwohl2012-09-02T09:39:25+00:00

For this part of my blender particle experiments I made some particles bounce of a spherical object. The effect was generated using a spherical object that acts as a forcefield and a obstacle to the particles. The particle system needs to have the gravity turned of.
